The Video Doorbell V3:everything that changed (and why it matters)

The Video Doorbell V2 was already one of the bestselling video doorbells in the Netherlands. No subscription, 2K resolution, easy installation and a price that makes Ring look expensive.

The V3 replaces it. And the difference between the two is bigger than a version number might suggest.

New 4K camera. New processor. New AI. Wider viewing angle. Better weather protection. Everything the V2 did well, the V3 does measurably better. And everything the V2 couldn't do, the V3 now can.

We've gone through every specification, tested the claims and compared it with what Ring and Google Nest offer at around the same price. Here's what's changed, and why it matters.

01

4K Ultra HD: four times the detail

The V2 recorded in 2K, sharp enough to see who was at the door. The V3 records in 4K Ultra HD, with four times as many pixels.

In practice: you can read the label on a package. You can recognise a face at the edge of the frame. If something happens and you need to share footage with the police, the image is sharp enough to be useful. Not a blurry shape that could be anyone.

4K also makes a difference when zooming in digitally. While the V2's image started to lose sharpness beyond 2× zoom, the V3 keeps details clear at higher magnification. You're not just capturing more pixels. You're capturing more information.

02

160° wide angle, from head to toe

Five degrees wider than the V2, from 155° to 160°. The real improvement is in the vertical view.

The V3 has a new vertical wide-angle view, designed to show visitors from head to toe and packages on the ground. The V2 often cut off below the waist, so you could see a face but not the box they left behind.

This is the kind of change that sounds small on a spec sheet but changes what you actually see every day. Most of the activity at your front door happens at ground level: packages, pets, children. The V3 captures it all.

03

2× faster chip: alerts before they’re gone

The V3 runs on a new processor that is about twice as fast as the V2's chip. You'll notice the difference in three areas:

1

First, notifications are faster. There’s less delay between someone pressing the doorbell or triggering motion detection and the notification reaching your phone. That matters when a delivery driver rings the bell and walks away just a few seconds later.

2

Second, the AI runs on the device itself, rather than through the cloud. The V3 analyzes footage locally. This makes detection faster, and your footage never leaves your home.

3

Third, the app responds faster. Opening the live view, browsing recordings, using 2-way audio: everything that felt a little slow on the V2 is snappier on the V3.

04

Smart AI detection: people, packages and zones

The V2 had motion detection. The V3 has three types of smart detection that the V2 never had:

AI person detection

The camera distinguishes people from cars, animals and shadows. You get an alert when someone is at your door, not when a cat walks past or a branch moves. That alone eliminates most of the false alerts that lead people to turn off notifications altogether.

AI package detection

The V3 detects when a package is left at your door. You get a specific notification: a package has arrived. No more checking tracking apps, messaging your neighbour or wondering whether the delivery driver has been.

Adjustable detection zones

Draw zones in the camera view and only get notifications when there’s movement within those zones. Monitor your garden path, but ignore the pavement. Watch your driveway, not the street. That way, you decide what counts as an event and what doesn’t.

05

IP66 weatherproof: made for Dutch weather

The V2 had an IP65 rating: protected against rain and dust. The V3 moves up to IP66, with extra protection against powerful water jets. In a country where horizontal rain is a season, that matters.

IP66 means the V3 can handle storms, a pressure washer at the front door and years of Dutch winters without deteriorating. The housing has been redesigned for this upgrade, with better sealing around the lens and button.

Available in black and white to match your front door.

Expert insight

The V3 addresses every practical complaint reviewers had about the V2: the vertical field of view, processing speed and smart detection. And it keeps the no subscription model that made the V2 popular in the first place. The AI package detection alone is a reason to upgrade for anyone who works from home or regularly receives packages. At this price, it changes the conversation about what you can expect from a video doorbell in 2026.

What customers say

“I've had the V2 for two years, and it's always worked flawlessly. I pre-ordered the V3 as soon as I saw the 4K and package detection. Those were exactly the two things I felt were missing from the V2."

Marco  · Amsterdam Verified

“We get three or four deliveries a week. The package detection alone makes the upgrade worth it. No more guessing whether the delivery driver actually came by or left it with a neighbour."

Annemiek · Groningen Verified

“Switched from Ring. I was paying €10 a month to view footage from my own doorbell. The V3 gives me better resolution, better detection and no monthly fees. The math is clear."
