You Saw Their StoryIn AD, Trouw,Het ParoolAnd De Volkskrant. Here Are 7 Things There Was No Room for on the Page.

On Monday, October 26, Luc Smits and Teun Dieperink opened the newspaper and saw their own faces. Their story filled a whole page in AD, Trouw, Het Parool and de Volkskrant, four of the biggest newspapers in the Netherlands.

The page told their story in brief: two former parcel delivery drivers who were tired of video doorbells that required a monthly payment. So they decided to do things differently and developed their own video doorbell with no subscription. Today, more than 100,000 people in the Netherlands use their products.

But a newspaper page can only hold so much. Here’s what didn’t fit, starting with what two delivery drivers saw on their route every day.

Monday 26 October 2026

01

It started on the wrong side of the door.

Before Finex, Luc and Teun delivered packages. Every day, they rang hundreds of doorbells, and every day, they saw the same things go wrong. Doorbells that responded too late. Batteries that were already dead. Connections that dropped out. People who only got a notification when the delivery driver was already walking back to the van.

"We thought: surely this could be much simpler? A video doorbell should make your life easier, not more complicated. You just want to leave home with peace of mind and still know what’s happening at home."

Luc Smits

They started Finex in 2022. A year later, their first video doorbell, the V1, went on sale. The V3 is the result of everything they’ve learned since then.

02

You pay once. Then it’s yours.

The second thing that bothered them was the subscription.

"You buy a video doorbell, only to find out you have to pay every month to use certain features. Want to watch your recordings or save them? With many brands, you need a subscription for that. We thought that was really odd. You've already bought the product, haven't you?"

Luc Smits

The V3 costs €109,95 at the introductory price (regular price €159,95). That's the full price. All features work from day one, and none disappear later, because there's nothing to cancel.

Here's what the same front door setup costs after three years with the two biggest brands:

DoorbellPricePer monthAfter 3 years
Ring Video Doorbellapprox. €99from €3.99approx. €243
Google Nest Doorbell (battery)approx. €199from €10approx. €559
Finex Video Doorbell V3€109.95€0€124.90 (incl. SD card)

Monthly prices are for the cheapest subscription that lets you save recordings (Ring Home, Google Home Premium). Prices are approximate as of October 2026.

And with Ring and Google Nest, your recordings stay in the cloud only as long as you keep paying. Cancel your subscription, and your recording history disappears too. The V3 stores everything on an SD card inside the doorbell. It all stays right at home with you.

03

4K, and you can finally see the ground in front of your door.

Most video doorbells give you a wide, landscape view. You see the street. You see a face. What you don’t see is your doormat, exactly where the delivery driver just left your parcel.

Luc and Teun know that spot better than anyone. They spent years leaving parcels there.

The V3 has a 4K Ultra HD lens and a vertical fullscreen view with a 160° viewing angle. You see whoever is at your door from head to toe, and the parcel on the ground in front of them. At night, it automatically switches to infrared.

"The vertical view in particular is a big improvement. You want to see not just who's at your door, but also what's happening on the ground. For example, when a delivery driver leaves a package. With the V3, you can see that much more clearly, even when you're not home."

04

It lets you know sooner, and only when it matters.

Remember doorbells that were slow to respond? The V3 runs on Finex's new F3 chip, making it up to 2× faster to respond. When someone's at your door, your phone lets you know while they're still there.

Speed is only half the story. A doorbell that goes off every time a car passes will have you muting it within a week. The V3's AI detection recognises people and packages, and you can draw your own detection zones around your door in the app. The garden path, yes. The street, no. When your phone alerts you, it's worth a look.

05

Battery or wired. Your door, your choice.

Not every front door has doorbell wiring, and not everyone wants to call an electrician. The V3 runs on a 5,200 mAh battery that lasts around 3 to 5 months on a single charge, depending on how busy your doorstep is. Already have a doorbell transformer (8 to 24V AC)? Connect the V3 to it and you’ll never need to recharge it.

It works on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, so it stays connected where older doorbells lose their connection. The app guides you through setup in about 5 minutes, with no special tools needed. And it’s IP66-certified, so it’s built for Dutch weather, all year round.

06

Three versions, each built around what customers asked for.

Finex didn't get to the V3 in one go. The V1 recorded in 1080p. The V2 moved to 2K and added the choice between battery and wired power. The V3 moves to 4K.

Each step came from the people who used the previous version.

"We really listen to what people tell us. Some want a sharper picture, while others want to clearly see packages on the ground too. We use that feedback to keep improving our products."

Luc Smits

A sharper image: 4K. See your packages: a vertical view. The V3 gives you both.

07

100,000 households later, your footage still stays at home.

What started as an idea from two young entrepreneurs is now a Dutch security brand chosen by more than 100,000 people. The range has grown to include security cameras, solar cameras and smart door locks. The logo changed this year. Video quality went from 1080p to 4K.

One thing hasn't changed. Your recordings are stored on an SD card in your own doorbell, with up to 6 months of footage to look back on. You can connect up to 10 phones, so everyone in your household gets notified. And it works with Google Home, Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings.

"The best part is when people tell us they've finally ditched their monthly subscription and installed their video doorbell themselves in just a few minutes. That's why we do what we do. We believe smart security should give you peace of mind above all."

Freedom in your hands

The newspaper page ends with the phrase Luc and Teun keep coming back to: freedom in your own hands.

Close the door behind you. Make your own plans. And still see what’s happening at home, with no hassle and no contract tying you down.

That was the idea back in 2022, with a package on someone else’s doorstep. The V3 is the best version of it yet.

The V3 is now available at its introductory price

The Finex Video Doorbell V3 currently costs €109.95 instead of €159.95. That’s €50 off, and it’s an introductory price, so it won’t stay this low.
